Notes on wiki security
From CGEU

[edit] Guiding Principle
As with email, assume that anything we put on the wiki will be seen by the boss.
[edit] Security Options
these options are about barriers to entry. meaning if someone can just come here and participate, they don't have to log in or anything, they probably will. if there is a high barrier to entry we will only get the "die hards."
[edit] soft security
- Completely open
- anyone can read, anyone can edit
[edit] hard to harder security
- Login to edit
- anyone can read, must log in to edit, no restrictions on who can register a user account
- this is how the CGEU wiki is currently set up
- Only members edit
- anyone can read, only vetted CGEU people can edit
- Restricted areas
- part of the wiki can only be seen (and modified) by CGEU people -- activity can still be monitored through recent changes
- Private
- only members can see and edit content
[edit] Two Concerns
[edit] boss knows our strategy
Some material clearly should not be posted. For example, if we have a plan which depends on tactical surprise for its success, it should be kept from the wiki.
Beyond that, we need to balance our concern for tactical surprise with our goal of working collectively and making it easier to share information with one another.
[edit] legal exposure for recognized locals
One option would be to put up a disclaimer making it clear that the content of the wiki does not necessarily reflect the policies of any CGEU local.
