Teaching Assistants Union
From CGEU
[edit] News: 23-Apr-2007
TAU Members,
Our voice WAS heard! As a result of countless hours of work from all of us, TAU and the university have reached tentative agreement on a contract that makes many meaningful improvements to our pay, benefits, and gives usthe ability to continue to win great victories in our employment conditions in the future.
Among the highlights:
- -Tremendous improvements in the quality of health insurance available
- -A 2% increase per year to our pay
- -A bump in the number of credits of tuition provided for graduate assistants
- -The opportunity to pay for any tuition balance and for health insurance premiums on a pro-rata basis throughout the semester.
- -Posting of TA positions on a central university website so that everyone has an opportunity to see what's available and to apply for jobs and know what criteria will be used to fill them.
- -A just-cause standard for discipline during one's appointment and a grievance procedure that ends in binding third-party arbitration
- -Paid medical, bereavement, and jury duty/immigration leave.
- -The framework for a thriving union and a good working relationship
- -A guarantee that your appointment can not be reduced without your agreement with the University.
At today's [Friday] membership meeting, a motion was passed to bring this tentative contract to a vote of the membership. We will provide specific contract language to you in the coming days.
- David Zwart
- President, TAU
